1878: Moved to Portland, OR from Kansas. Worked as leather cutter for a shoe company. [Oregon Journal, Mar 24, 1926] 1879: Moved to Dalton, OR. Worked as farm hand in summer and teacher (in Newberg) in winter. [Oregon Journal; Mar 24, 1926] 1882: Moved to eastern Oregon, worked as farm hand. [Oregon Journal, Mar 24, 1926] Taught school at various locations (1882-1886): [Oregon Journal, Mar 26, 1936] Eureka Flat, Washington The Meadows, Umatilla County, Oregon Foster, Oregon (now Stanfield) Nolin, Oregon Butter Creek, Oregon 1886: worked at store in Echo, Oregon. [Oregon Journal, Mar 26, 1936] 1889: bought 50-acre farm four miles north of Newberg, Oregon [Oregon Journal, Mar 26, 1936] 1891: moved to Oaksdale, Washington; worked for a store there [Oregon Journal, Mar 26, 1936] 1901: moved to Arlington, Oregon; worked in store before becoming bank bookkeeper in 1904 [Oregon Journal, Mar 26, 1936] Lived in Newberg when it was called Spudville. [Obituary] Taught at Newberg, The Meadows, Stanfield, Echo, Nolin, Butter Creek and others. [Obituary] Taught adult Bible class at Woodstock Methodist Church. [Obituary] "HORACE MANN COX,---b. Joie Lester Hamer, of Milton, O., b. Feb. 8, 1871; children: i. Elma Virginia, b. Apr. 16, 1889---in millinery business on her own account, since 1907; ii. Esther Pauline, b.
